What if a "CPU decoding" badge appears?

The stream uses a format your device cannot decode in hardware.

iPhoneiPadMacApple TV

An orange badge reading "CPU decoding — uses more battery" means this particular stream is encoded in a format your device's video hardware cannot decode, so Rivue decodes it with the processor instead. After a few seconds the badge shrinks to a small icon and stays for the session.

What it means for you

The picture is fine — nothing is broken. But the processor is doing heavy work, so the battery drains faster and the device can run warm. The badge exists so that battery use never has a mystery cause.

What to try

  1. On battery, prefer another copy of the channel — a different source often uses a common format that decodes in hardware. Check Sources on the folded row.
  2. Plugged in, feel free to ignore the badge entirely.
Tip — If it keeps happening, send us a playback log right after the problem: open SettingsPlaylists & SourcesDiagnosticsShare Playback Log and email it to support@rivue.tv. The log records what the player actually did, which is what pins down the cause. (Log sharing is available on iPhone, iPad and Mac.)
